8) What else can I do after the elective weeks?
The options are countless! We work with local tour companies to organise any trips requested by our guests. The money covers accommodation,3 meals a day by a private cook, transportation to and from the hospital for clinical rotations, hospital fees and Wi-Fi access. Our elective programs comply strictly with hospital rules and regulations on training of healthcare students. As such, your electives will involve shadowing a qualified and licensed hospital healthcare provider strictly as an observer in your field of interest. You will not be assisting in medical diagnosis or procedures on patients other than being allowed to observe .
In our group trainings, basic first aid will be taught to the students, demonstrations of medical procedures on manikins and PowerPoint lectures on topics related to global health are presented. The aim here is to introduce you to global health and cultivate a culture of learning in preparation of your upcoming courses.
Depending on your career interests, we offer options for pre-med, pre-nursing, pre-dentistry and pre-physician assistant students among others.
